Scholarship Information / Información de Beca

The Whale Shark and Oceanic Research Center and its Board of Directors are proud to offer scholarship opportunities for Honduran nationals enrolled in Honduran Universities, who are seeking advanced careers in marine conservation. The Jim Engel Ocean Steward Scholarship (JEOS Scholarship) is awarded to only 2 students each year (1 spring season, 1 fall season), and is intended to promote marine education outside of the classroom. Recipients are entitled to an educational internship placement at the Whale Shark and Oceanic Research Center on Utila for up to 6 consecutive months, which will include all necessary SCUBA diving courses up to the Divemaster (professional) level. This educational experience – and the associated training – is valued at $10,000*. This opportunity represents the only scholarship option within WSORC.
